Unless M$ is successfull in killing/dilluting it into obscurity,
I believe JAVA will become an importent inter-platform language.  
It may never take the place of speed-sensitive real-time programs, but I think a JAVA Word Processor will soon arrive that will be responsive enough to be used everyday.
